Breaches Mean Firings

Happy Friday, unless you were fired over a breach :). Take a moment to watch this slideshow on recent breaches that ended badly for some of those responsible. I wonder if these firings concretely changed aspects of each company's cyber security posture...

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) customers are protected by 24x7 in-depth monitoring and trusted security incident response. Be cyber smart... Subscribe to trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com to receive these daily posts.

Amazon's "Self-Destruct" Button

Have you ever wished for a "self-destruct" button in your corporate network? If only security incident response was that simple! Check out this article on Amazon's new patent for their drones to self-destruct "if something goes wrong".

At Trestle Networks, we work closely with our Managed Security customers to professionally manage each security incident response phase, from "Preparation" to "Lessons Learned". Be cyber smart. Subscribe to trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com to receive these daily posts.

Are You Ready for Alexa for Business?

Are you comfortable -- I'm not -- with Alexa for Business in your corporate office? As described in the article, AWS's initial focus is on conference room and integration with Polycom and other video/audio conference systems. Are you willing to rapidly embrace this potential security risk?

At Trestle Networks, we recommend our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) customers take a very cautious approach to introducing Alexa, Echo and similar connected devices into their environment. Be cyber smart. Subscribe to trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com to receive these daily posts.

31 Million Users' Data Leaked

Check out this article on a mountain of user data -- 31 million! -- leaked publicly by Israeli company Ai.Type. Full names, phone numbers and so much more personal data. And how'd it leak? An elaborate code vulnerability? Nah, just slopped security (database was accessible directly from Internet). Also, the article -- rightly -- asks, why a virtual keyboard and emoji app is collecting "everything from contacts to keystrokes". Not cool, Ai.Type.

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) customers are protected 24x7 against unauthorized systems access, zero day vulnerabilities and DDoS attacks. Don't be a victim. Subscribe to trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com to receive these daily posts.

100,000+ Botnets

They aren't cute, unlike the pic below...

Read this update on the scary Mirai IoT botnet. Even mega backbone provider Level 3 Communications has taken action, but supposedly with limited impact. When will the trigger be pulled and for what purpose? I'm betting on a crippling DDoS attack we'll all read about.

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) customers are protected against unauthorized systems access, zero day vulnerabilities and DDoS attacks. Don't be a victim. Subscribe to trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com to receive these daily posts.

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks, Inc.) solutions are 24x7 monitoring every customer's infrastructure for data breaches and latest vulnerabilities. Overdue Android Security?

Read this short article on Google's stronger security requirements for Android developers. These are way overdue, including a privacy policy and user opt-in for specific personal data uses. It's not a data security silver bullet, but is welcome transparency. BTW, how secure is user data across your entire business environment?

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) solutions are 24x7 monitoring every customer's network infrastructure for potential vulnerabilities and data breaches. Don't be a victim. Contact me to learn more and enjoy these daily trestleNEWS posts.

Happy Friday, But Don't trust a Furby

Check out this great article on the gaping security holes that may make a WiFi-connected toy into a "wireless spy vehicle"... Joking aside, how secure is your business network?

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks) solutions are 24x7 monitoring each customer's network infrastructure for rogue devices and other malicious activity. Contact me to learn more and visit www.trestlenetworks.com today.

More Sloppy DoD AWS Security

Check out this article on more of the Pentagon's sloppy security with AWS S3 buckets. Classified data "jumped" the air gap. From first-hand experience federal security practices, I'm not surprised. Is your business more secure than the DoD? I really hope so...

At Trestle Networks, our Managed Security and Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks, Inc.) solutions secure customer data and monitor 24x7 for malicious activity. Want to learn more? Contact us today.

The Unimaginably Bad macOS High Sierra Bug

Oh boy, "dumb" is right. Is this symbolic of post-Jobs Apple? Maybe too much effort on style and less on the most fundamental security? Glad we hadn't yet upgraded our Macbooks to High Sierra (10.13.1 (17B48))...

At Trestle Networks, we work closely with our Managed Security and Managed WiFi customers to quickly address known security vulnerabilities, including this fall's WPA2 KRACK. Contact us to learn more and visit www.trestlenetworks.com.

Uber's Poor Security Incident Response

Uber bumbled its way into a textbook lesson on poor security incident response. Communication, both internal and external, are critical. Done poorly, it's not just bad practice.... It's negligence. However, Uber did communicate well with the hackers (see the non-disclosure agreement and $100,000 payoff).

At Trestle Networks, we work closely with our Managed Security customers to professionally manage each security incident response phase, from careful preparation to lessons learned. Contact us to learn more and sign up for trestleNEWS at www.trestlenetworks.com.

Uber Breach

Uber kept their big, fat security breach secret for a year... How'd the breach occur? Some new attack vector? Nope, just sloppy security practices (AWS credentials were left on a GitHub account).

At Trestle Networks, we work closely with our Managed Security customers to secure all credentials and tightly restrict role-based access, especially for PCI DSS 3.2 compliance. Contact us to learn more.

Tin Foil WiFi

And now some Friday fun with aluminum foil, radio reflection and WiFi gain. If your business WiFi needs this hack, you've got bigger IT problems! At Trestle Networks, we perform in-depth site surveys for our Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks, Inc.) customers so they always have proper WiFi coverage and capacity. Contact me to learn more and follow Trestle Networks.

Christmas Trees and WiFi

What's the impact of Christmas tree lights to your WiFi? As soon as our tree is up, I'll test this with my RF spectrum analyzer (SPOILER ALERT: research shows a negligible impact).

In your business environment, RF interference -- from microwaves to poor channel planning -- crushes WiFi performance. At Trestle Networks, our Managed WiFi (powered by Mojo Networks, Inc.) customers get best-practice design, in-depth site surveys and 24/7 RF monitoring. Contact me to learn more and follow Trestle Networks.

10 WPA2 Vulnerabilities!

Monday brings 10 ugly WPA2 vulnerabilities, described in amazing detail by the Mojo Networks, Inc. team. Unable to immediately patch your WiFi infrastructure? Trestle Networks Managed WiFi (powered by @Mojo Networks) customers are zero-day protected against 9 of these threats by 24/7 WIPS that blocks MAC spoofing... What a relief! We'll safely patch our customers' APs after business hours.

Unshackled SonicWall

Great to see SonicWall growing, unshackled from Dell. A solid platform, especially for SMBs. At Trestle Networks, our Managed Firewall solution includes support for customers' existing SonicWall deployments.

But steer clear of built-in WiFi on smaller firewall models. While tempting, it's a recipe for coverage/capacity problems. Contact me to learn more and follow Trestle Networks.
